To lose weight you need to eat less, but how can you do this without feeling hungry all the time?
A calorie deficit is absolutely essential for losing weight — but sticking to a calorie deficit for long enough to actually see any results is far easier said than done. However, there’s a lot of research into different strategies, and specifically different foods, we can use to help keep hunger at bay and make it a little easier to reduce the amount of food we eat, if that’s what your goal is.
In this video, Richie Kirwan, nutritionist expert, talks about some of the best foods for helping to manage your hunger levels while in a calorie deficit.

What would be my best way of myself weighting under 80 pounds by a calorie deficit eating lunch with a group full of people!
Berries and lettuce are not helping me. I'm only doing a 250 calorie deficit but I'm starving all the time
You said “LOW FAT”’! NOT GOOD AT ALL!! CONTRARY to this belief, HEALTHY FATS ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU THINK!!
Eat FULL FAT GREEK YOGURT AND AVOCADOS, FREE RANGE ORGANIC FED CHICKEN EGGS, KERRY GOLD GRASS FED COW MILK BUTTER, GHEE, TALLOW!!!
Low fat is one of the Absolute Worst Misconceptions!!
Do you know what's not a good idea? Going from eating four thousand cal a day and then cutting down to 1500 overnight. I maxed out on calories by 5pm and by 8PM I started having fantasies about food that were borderline erotic. 😂
An… absolutely perfect video. Thank you! ❤
This was the best explanation of why higher protein is important I've heard. Thanks for such a great video!
I thought youre the guy from Modern Family 😂
Last night I ate white pasta I was more hungry after I ate then before.
What if your lactose intolerant?
no way one of my tutors at john moores university
When you feel hungry or having cravings drink plenty of water. This something that is like self control.
GLP-1 haahha what a concept in 2025. That aged…good?
I like this guy, something about him just relaxes me hehe
High-quality video! Nice scientific explanations, too.
Very helpful. Thank you.
I can listen to him speak all day. He explains things so well and his accent is a plus🙌🏾
This Guy makes me feel like I'm not moving my hands enough…
Solid advice that isn’t being screamed in my face or a bunch of weird steps? I like this guy.
Why do you show a Feynman diagram about particle physics when talking about Leptin?
Makes sense. Thanks.
How is a beta-decay related to leptin again?
Smoke!
Very nice all in theory. In fact i eat a rich protein an fibre diet and I still always hungry
Higher dairy intake? What about the lactose intolerant over here? 🙋♀️
Am trying to eat less and exercise more but i feel hungry so fast .
Fruits and vegetables really do fill you up … they have so much water that's why.
I try and two servings of vegetables each day. A large salad or a large amount of asparagus does the trick.
thats strange, caffeine always makes me hungry
Any other particle physicists out here wondering why they used a beta minus decay Feynmann diagram for 'Leptin'? 😭 I think someone confused it for 'Lepton'
I just need to stop treating myself to chocolate cookie at night 😅
what about those of us who have no appatite what so ever, and can do days without eating, and when I do eat I get sick, and dont want to continue eating… literally hurts to eat… hurts to think of food, and the nausua is super mild, just enough to keep me from wanting to get food, then I get spurts of hunger, where I have to micro eat basicly… because otherwise my stomach will just reject it. explain THAT… im super skinny and short, and all I hear online is how to LOOSE WEIGHT… fucking fat ass people can go to hell, I cant even get above 15% fat, and while you might think im amazing for not having to eat shit, im weak as shit, and cant build muscle because food makes me fucking sick…
Am I the only one that think he moves like a robot 😂, thanks for the tips!
Just be careful about dairy as it can be inflammatory and also bad for men as too much may be linked to prostate cancer
Great video
With my cultural background, breads and rice are staples. I decided cutting these out is stupid. They're not intrinsically bad food – I just need to limit how much of it I eat. I tried cutting out bread and rice and after 4 days I binged and ate muffins and crisps. I also realized not enough salt makes me crave more food. I cut out the junk and got miserable – an apple with the tiniest sprinkling of salt stopped my crisps craving. I realize even though I'm trying to lose weight, I'm being stupid thinking I can go from an unhealthy diet to a clean diet in a week – its going to take some time to adjust. A muffin won't kill me as long I don't eat them all the time.
I've always been told that you must have a balanced diet to make your life healthier (which includes mixing different kinds of foods such as carbs, protein, and vegetables into your meals). Although I understood that you need to do it to be healthy, it wasn't really something I was keen on doing especially since I didn't like eating my veggies since I was a kid. I'd usually just eat rice and meat. But what he said made so much sense and made me realize something so simple.
Too much of anything is bad.
As he said, Vegetables (although healthy) are actually there to help you lessen eating more carbs or fats and vice versa, making sure you don't 'overeat' anything. I feel so stupid yet thankful that I learned this. For someone like me who doesn't really like eating vegetables until now, this logic really helps me and motivates me to eat right. Thank you so much for this. I'm super happy I found this Youtube channel and this amazing professional.
Its 8:30 pm and i just reached my calorie limit
I'm an athlete and I had recently started tracking my caloric intake and wanted to lean out so I went into a deficit, but I'm so hungry all the time especially right after a meal. I eat about 1.1-1.2 grams of protein per lb a day and I also believe I'm getting enough fiber, about 50-60 grams a day (I'm 6'1 160-165). I haven't tried eating a bunch of energy dense foods with a lot of water content so hopefully that will help. But I guess my body is an enigma, becasue the only thing that makes me not feel hungry IS when I eat fast (processed) foods. I'm assuming maybe its the only thing that fills me up as it does have the most calories, but I found it odd that they're supposed to not satiate you. Anyway, thanks for the video!
doesn't high protein diet affect your kidney in the longer term? Also, eating too much red meat can cause colon cancer.
I thought low fat dairy products were less healthy/contain more sugar than full fat?
I like this man!!! OMG I'd eat so much junk and never feel full. I thought there was something wrong with me. 😟 Brilliant info!!!!
Mentioning nuts & seeds as high fiber yes . But eating them regularly while trying to maintain or establish a calorie deficit , for most people = hell no. As they are super high In calories .
awesome stuff as always!!
Great stuff
